Web Directions Code – what’s that all about?

A few years ago, after years of making Sydney the home of Web Directions South, we decided that Melbourne really deserved a bit of love as well. Especially as over the years we had seen so many people make the trip up to Sydney, it really was only fair that Melbourne should get its own event.

We came up with the idea of a doing a one track event that was all about writing quality code for the front-end, and Web Directions Code was born. Of course, we knew the event was a good idea, but we were genuinely surprised by the fact we sold out in that first year, thanks in part to some awesome support from our good friends at MelbJS and SitePoint.

But Web Directions Code really found its soul in 2013 when we moved it to Melbourne Town Hall. We loved our “olde worlde” venue, but even more, we loved the excitement and enthusiasm we were able to generate in the audience by focussing on a combination of best practices for working with JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS, alongside some inspiring and thought provoking sessions that got everyone thinking about what it really means to write code for the web.

So it’s pretty exciting to be involved in Web Directions Code 2014. I love our cool site which uses video to really convey what it feels like to be there. And I love that packed program, starting with Raquel Vélez, who I feel will pick up exactly where Steven Wittens left off at the end of Web Directions Code 2013, and ending with a very dear Web Directions friend from way back when (the last time he spoke for us was in 2005!), Tantek Çelik.

We can’t wait, and hope you can make it along. Grab your spot and organise your accommodation now. With early bird pricing for this amazing couple of days of learning, connecting and geeking out, it’s an absolute steal!
