Design a Mikon and have it included in the Web Directions Mikons set

Design a Mikon and have it included in the Web Directions Mikons set

A conference is as much about the new people you meet as the ideas and techniques you get to see first hand. That’s why you have a name badge that lets others quickly identify what your name is and who you work for. But who you really are is so much more than that.

This year at Web Directions South your name badge can also tell people about those things that are really important to you. And the best part is, you get to tell us what that is.

Maybe it’s your skills: CSS, HTML, Perl, PHP, Java, Flash, Ajax, Javascript etc etc etc

Or where you’re from: NSW, Qld, Vic, WA?

Whether you follow league, rugby, AFL, soccer?

Maybe you’re an early bird or a night owl? Clean desk or messy? Desktop or laptop? Coffee or tea?

Mac or Windows? Or Linux?

This is a great use for Mikons

Design your own Mikon

This year at Web Directions South you even get to design your own: here’s how it works.

Go along to the Mikons site and create an account.

Design a Mikon and tag it with wds07. Mikons.com has its own editor, or you can even upload an EPS.

Submit as many as you like, in fact I think the best ones will be those that cover off a set of options, such as “carnivore or vegetarian”. Go here for Mikon ideas.

Just make sure you have the “share” option on the Mikon clicked.

And make sure you do it before midnight on Monday September 3.

The best 50 Mikons will be printed on a sticker set to go in the Web Directions South satchels for everyone to use on their name badges. Just like these ones from SXSW earlier this year:

The winners will also get a Mikons t shirt. How cool is that?

Hop to it now: remember, entries close Monday September 3.

    But I can’t draw :-(

    well done Nate!

  2. That is so very cool. I can see an emacs, .rb and a RoR Mikon. Hmmmm — I wonder what Dr. Nic will put? Maybe a stethoscope?

  3. Can we vote for existing ones, like all the ones here — http://www.mikons.com/people/SXSWmikons/7203 (especially the Ruby one)

  4. @mark — “stethoscope”, hmm, or maybe a dashing lab coat? :)

    Regarding existing Mikons.

Mikons has a “remix” system. If a mikon is marked as being remixable, this means anyone else can use it as the basis for a new mikon. This is in fact the case with the Ruby mikon you point out, so I don’t see any reason not to grab that one, make your own version of it, tag it with wds07, and it will be in the system. Make sense?

Added some but think might have to go to back to the drawing board or maybe give remixing a whirl as Maxine suggested …

  5. Really nice concept. Works well on a windows box, doesn’t work that well on a intel mac however without running the old shockwave plugin in rosetta mode. This is a bit (read massive ) hurdle. Means have to go back to a Windows box to do designs. sigh!

    gary,

    yeah — shockwave!

you can upload eps files too

  6. RE Intel Macs: I launched Firefox in rosetta and it works — albeit a bit slow. I used Fireworks to create mine but dropped them into Freehand (RIP) to export them to EPS. The EPS upload worked fine but beware of blends, etc as they can go a bit manky.

    Thanks Gavin,

if you have formats other than EPS, and nothing to convert to that, try

    http://convert.neevia.com/

You can upload all kinds of formats, and get an EPS from that
