Ignite Web – a great Melburnian night

Thanks to everyone who came along to Ignite Web last night at The Apartment in Melbourne, with particular thanks to the presenters for putting so much work into entertaining us all, Steve and Glo and the guys from Molt:n for running it all so smoothly, and the waiter at that cafe in Block Place we went to afterwards, for his patience and good humour that would put just about every waiter in Sydney to shame.

Couple of cool things that came out of the presentations:

RED (Resource Expert Droid) – developed by Mark Nottingham, a robot that checks HTTP resources to see how they’ll behave, pointing out common problems and suggesting improvements.

XIML – developed by Maxim Shklyar, a simple markup language enabling functionality previously available only with complex programmed applications like Flash.

Was really great to see such a big turnout – look forward to the next one.
