Accommodation options during Web Directions South
We appreciate that for a lot of our attendees coming to Web Directions costs quite a bit more than just the price of admission. Apart from the chance to win an iPhone, this is another good reason to get stuck into sorting your registration out now while flights are still reasonable, and cheap and cheerful hotel rooms can still be found.
We’ve prepared a listing of places to stay for all different budgets which you can find on our venue page. If you’ve got any other secret gems you’d care to share with us, please let us know and we’ll add them in.
Oh, and the Virgin Blue site? It’s here :)
Done all that? Excellent — see you in September!

The Kirk on Harris on the corner of Harris and Pyrmont where the entire Perth contingent and myself stayed last Web Directions?
Ah yes, I’ll get this one added in. Though it is a genuine cheap and cheerful from what I hear. This from an attendee who stayed there last year :)
“One place missing is “Kirk on Harris” corner Harris St and Bridge Rd where the Perth Port80 Posse stayed last year (but is unlikely to stay this year):
Pros:
It is cheap, we where paying $80 or so a night for a twin share room.
It is a couple of blocks from the Convention Centre
It is on top of a real pub with cheap beer and ok food
Cons:
11 of the 12 rooms face the busy Harris St and Bridge Rd intersection, which has a large metal plate that trucks drive over at all times of the night,
No air conditioning, so you needed to open the window for ventilation, making it even noisier and keeping you awake (Miles and Myles will attest to that).
Shared bathrooms (never a problem, always clean).
I was the lucky one who got the one single room overlooking the beer garden, once all the drunks (mainly my friends) left the beer garden, I could sleep until the sun streamed through the window in the early morning (no blinds).
In other words, if you have low expectations (the rooms are small, the furnishings old), enjoy a beer and come prepared for the noise (ear plugs) it will do OK.”
I’m not recommending the Kirk. It was way too noisy. My room was large but opposite the metal plate, the only way to sleep was to get blind drunk. Think I slept about 3 hours over the entire conference. Perth Port80 Posse is on the look out for other accommodation! Only good thing was the beer garden, the Pen and Concrete.
But it’s $80 a night! :-) Plus I got subsidised long-term car parking space for the 3 days for just $10 a day which is a sweet deal, about 300 metres down the road. Just get the coupons from the Kirk front desk / bar.
Yes, The Kirk from what I hear is most definitely an example of “you get what you pay for”. Which at $80 a night and just a few minutes walk from the venue, might not be that much by way of peace and quiet.
