Plenty to do after hours dur­ing Web Directions South this year — rest assured, you will not be going back to your hotel room after things wrap up at the con­fer­ence and work­shops each day.

Port 80 Drinks

I’m pretty sure this is the longest run­ning Web Directions infor­mal social event. After the work­shop are over on Wednesday come along and get to know the crew from WA at the Harlequin Inn (CNR of Harris and Union St in Pyrmont) from 6.30. The good peo­ple from Clever Starfish and Radharc are putting on a bar tab — this will def­i­nitely be a fun, friendly meetup and a great way to start the con­fer­ence. Just don’t let them lead you too far astray — remem­ber that 9am start on Thursday morning :)

Web Directions South Opening Night drinks

Thursday after­noon fin­ishes up with a much antic­i­pated ses­sion from August de los Reyes, the award­ing of the McFarlane Prize and then our Opening Night drinks, from 5.30 to 7.00. These will be at the con­fer­ence venue, just upstairs in the Bayside Terrace.

Web Directions is a great oppor­tu­nity to actu­ally meet all those peo­ple you fol­low on Twitter and get to know them on a richer deeper level way beyond the vir­tual. Webjam

The all new Webjam 8 will hap­pen at Bar Broadway on September 25, right after our open­ing night drinks. If you haven’t been to a Webjam before, this will be a fun action packed night when 15 or so peo­ple have 3 min­utes each to impress the crowd with some­thing cool they have done recently. Be sure to RSVP at the Webjam site.

And if you have some­thing you want to present — don’t hold back!! Glory and prizes could be yours!

Closing Night Drinks

After Mark’s pre­sen­ta­tion on Friday after­noon we’ll be head­ing over to the Shelbourne Hotel for a few quiet drinks and a bit of ele­va­tor music brought to you by none other than The Man in Blue and Lucas Chan. From 5.30 till late.

   Thanks for the social events cov­er­age, Maxine. I’m sure there are many peo­ple like me that believe that the social events are just as impor­tant as those edu­ca­tion bits, AKA the actual conference. :)

   I can’t believe it’s next week — how time flies!

   Wish id known about the open­ing drinks before, should have guessed. Looks like by the time I turn up every­one will be leav­ing. :( Oh well, guess Ill have to make up for it on Thursday and Friday arvo.
